春天是我們家庭旅行的季節。去年我們去多爾多涅的莎拉吃鴨子，今年長征去法西邊境的巴斯克。庇里牛斯山中的巴斯克有一部份在法國西南，另外一部份在西班牙。 他們說著一種來源不明、天外一筆的巴斯克語。
The destination of our annual family holiday this year was Basque region. A really special mountainous place residing people speaking a mysterious language that no one is sure of its origin.

巴斯克的房子非常特別，這種間隔著木材的矩形大房子，紅白相間的點綴在綠色的山間（有的時候木頭塗成綠色，極少是藍色）。這些大房子有著很厚的牆壁，目的應該是要冬暖夏涼，很多大房子有多個獨立出入口，比如爸爸媽媽住一部份，轉個角的另一個門就是兒子媳婦的房子入口，再轉個角可以是工作室、牲舍、還是其他孩子的房子。如果家庭變大就繼續黏新的房子上去。
Their traditional houses are half-timbered (mostly painted in red) alternating with the white façade made of plaster. These rectangular houses are multifunctional, combining households, animal stables or workshops.

Our 'gite', for example was a carpentry workshop that belonged to the late husband of our landlady.
